കടൽ പൂച്ചികൾ(Chiton)
കടൽപണിക്കാർക്ക് ഈ ജീവിയെ കുറിച്ച് പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് പറയാൻ ഒന്നും ഉണ്ടാവില്ല.
ചിപ്പികളോടൊപ്പം വരുന്ന അനേകം കടൽ പുഴുക്കളിൽ ഒന്ന്. കടലിനടിയിൽ നിന്നും ചെത്തിയെടുത്ത് കട്ടമരങ്ങളിൽ കൊണ്ടുവരുന്ന ചിപ്പികൾ നല്ലത് തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്ത ശേഷം ബാക്കിയുള്ള വേസ്റ്റിന്റെ കൂട്ടത്തിൽ കടലിലേയ്ക്ക് വാരി എറിഞ്ഞു കളയുന്നതിൽ പെടുന്ന ഒന്ന്. Biodiversity പഠനത്തിന്റെ ആദ്യ ഘട്ടത്തിൽ ഇവയെ ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചിരുന്നില്ല. ഇവ പതുക്കെ ചലിക്കുന്നത് കണ്ടതോടെ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങി. തീരെ ചെറിയ ജീവിയാണ്. ഇതേപറ്റി അറിയുന്ന വിദഗ്ധർ കേരളത്തിൽ ഇല്ലെന്നാണ് കേട്ടത്.
എല്ലാ ചിപ്പി കോളനികളിലും ഇവ ഉണ്ടാവും.
ഇവയുടെ പുറത്ത് എട്ട് പാളികൾ പോലെ തോന്നിക്കുന്ന കട്ടിയുള്ള അടുക്കുകളുണ്ട്.

Chiton

Seafarers and those who harvest shellfish likely have nothing particular to say about this creature.It is one of the many marine organisms found alongside shellfish. When shellfish harvested from the seabed are brought ashore on catamarans, the best ones are selected, and the rest including these creatures are simply scooped up and discarded back into the sea as waste. They went unnoticed during the initial stages of biodiversity studies but began to attract attention once their slow movement was observed. They are very small creatures. I have heard that there are no experts in Kerala who specialize in them.They are found in all shellfish colonies.They have a hard outer covering that resembles eight distinct plates or segments.
