പേത്തകൾ

ശരാശരി ശരീര വലിപ്പവുമായി താരതമ്യം ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ വളരെ വലിയ വായ് ഉള്ള ചെറിയ മത്സ്യങ്ങളെ പൊതുവേ പേത്തകൾ എന്നാണ് വിളിക്കുക.ഇവയിൽ തവളമൽസ്യം എന്നൊരിനം ഒഴികെയുള്ളവയിൽ വിഷാംശമുള്ള മുള്ളുകൾ കാണാം. പേത്തകൾ ഭക്ഷ്യയോഗ്യമല്ല. ഈ വർഗ്ഗത്തിൽപ്പെട്ട മീനുകൾ എല്ലാം കടലിന്റെ അടിത്തട്ടിൽ വസിക്കുന്നവയാണ്.വലിയ വായിൽ നിർത്താതെ സംസാരിക്കുന്നവരെ കടൽത്തീര ഭാഷയിൽ പേത്തവായൻ എന്ന് വിളിക്കാറുണ്ട്.

Pethas

Small fish with disproportionately large mouths relative to their body size are generally known as 'Pethas'.With the exception of the frogfish, members of this group possess venomous spines. Pethas are not edible. All fish belonging to this category are bottom-dwellers.In coastal parlance, people who talk incessantly with their large mouths are often referred to as 'Pethavayan'.
