കല്ലു വ്ളാങ്കുകൾ

കാഴ്ചയിൽ പാമ്പുകൾ പോലെയുള്ള ഇവ വിവിധതരത്തിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. തീരത്തോട് ചേർന്ന ഏതാണ്ട് എല്ലാ പാറപ്പാരുകളിലും കല്ല് വ്ളാങ്കുകളെ കാണാം. കല്ലുകൾക്കിടയിൽ ശരീരം ഒളിപ്പിച്ച് തലമാത്രം പുറത്തേക്ക് ഇട്ടിരിക്കുന്നതാണ് ഇവയുടെ രീതി. എങ്കിലും ഇവ പാറകൾക്കിടയിലൂടെ സഞ്ചരിക്കുന്ന വീഡിയോ FML ന് ചിത്രീകരിക്കാൻ ആയിട്ടുണ്ട്. കടലിനടിയിലെ പാറകൾക്കിടയിൽ ലോബ്സ്റ്ററുകൾ പിടിക്കാൻ കൂടുകൾ വയ്ക്കുമ്പോൾ അബദ്ധത്തിൽ അവയ്ക്കുള്ളിൽ വ്ളാങ്കുകൾ വീഴും എന്നല്ലാതെ കടൽ പണി സമൂഹം ബോധപൂർവ്വം ഇവയെ പിടിക്കുകയോ ഉപയോഗിക്കുകയോ ചെയ്യാറില്ല. കറുത്ത ശരീരത്തിൽ തേൻകൂടുകൾ പോലെ ഷഡ്ബുജ (hexogonal) ആകൃതിയിൽ വെളുത്ത വരകൾ ഉള്ള വ്ളാങ്കുകളെ മിക്കവാറും എല്ലായിടത്തും കാണാം. എന്നാൽ ചാര നിറത്തോട് കൂടിയ ശരീരവും മഞ്ഞ കലർന്ന ഇരുണ്ട നിറത്തിലുള്ള മുഖത്തോടു കൂടിയ ഒരിനത്തിൽ പെട്ട വ്ളാങ്കുകളെ കോവളത്തിന് അടുത്ത് 12- 13 മീറ്റർ ആഴത്തിൽ മുളവറക്കല്ല് എന്ന ഹാബിറ്റാറ്റിൽ എപ്പോഴും കാണാം. അതുപോലെ വെളുത്ത നിറത്തിലുള്ളതും ഇനിയും ഐഡന്റിഫൈ ചെയ്യാനാവാത്തതുമായ ഒരിനത്തെ ഞങ്ങൾ കണ്ടെത്തിയത് മുല്ലൂരിനടുത്ത് 9 മീറ്റർ ആഴത്തിലെ റോക്കി ഹാബിറ്റാറ്റിലാണ്. ആ ഹാബിറ്റാറ്റ് അദാനി പോർട്ടിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി നടന്ന ഡ്രജിങ്ങിൽ മൂടിപ്പോയി.

Moray Eels

Resembling snakes in appearance, these creatures come in various types. They can be found among almost all rocky outcrops near the shore. Their typical behavior involves hiding their bodies between rocks while keeping only their heads exposed; however, FML has managed to capture video footage of them moving through the crevices. While they may accidentally get trapped in lobster pots placed among underwater rocks, the fishing community does not intentionally catch or utilize them. Moray eels featuring a black body with white, hexagonal markings resembling a honeycomb pattern are commonly found everywhere. However, a specific variety characterized by a grey body and a dark, yellowish face is consistently found near Kovalam at a depth of 12–13 meters in a habitat known as 'Mulavarakkallu'. We also discovered an unidentified white variety in a rocky habitat at a depth of 9 meters near Mullur; unfortunately, that habitat was buried during dredging operations associated with the Adani Port project.
