പൂല

പരന്ന, വെളുത്ത ശരീരത്തിൽ കറുത്ത പൊട്ടുകളും കുഞ്ഞു തലയും ഉള്ള മത്സ്യം. മുതുകു ചിറക് നിറയെ കൊണ്ടാൽ തരിക്കുന്ന കൂർത്ത വലിയ മുള്ളുകൾ ഉള്ളതിനാൽ ആണ് ഇവയെ കടൽ പണിക്കാർ പൂല എന്ന് വിളിക്കുന്നത്. തീരക്കടൽ പാറപ്പാരുകളിൽ എല്ലാം കാണുന്നു എങ്കിലും വലിയതുറ കടൽപ്പാലത്തിനടിയിൽ ഈയിനം മത്സ്യം എപ്പോഴും ഉണ്ടാവും. വലിയ കൂട്ടമായല്ല സഞ്ചരിക്കുന്നത്. ഭക്ഷ്യ യോഗ്യമാണെങ്കിലും രുചികരമല്ല.

Poola

 A fish characterized by a flat, white body with black spots and a small head. Fisherfolk call it 'Poola' because its dorsal fin is lined with large, sharp spines that cause a stinging sensation upon contact. Although found among rocky outcrops in coastal waters, this species is consistently present beneath the Valiyathura pier. They do not travel in large schools. While edible, the fish is not considered tasty.
