ചുങ്കാൻ
കായലുകളിലും മറ്റും കാണുന്ന തേടിനെ പോലെ തോന്നിക്കുന്ന മറ്റൊരു ഇനമാണ്ചുങ്കാൻ.
സാധാരണ തേടുകളെക്കാൾ വലിപ്പം കുറഞ്ഞ ശരാശരി 25 സെന്റീമീറ്റർ നീളമുള്ള ഒന്നാണിത്. പണ്ട് തട്ടുമടി അഥവാ ബോട്ട് സീനിൽ ചുങ്കാൻ നിറയെ കിട്ടിയിരുന്നു. തീരത്തോട് ചേർന്ന കടലിലാണ് ഇവയുടെ സാന്നിധ്യമെങ്കിലും തീരക്കടൽ പാറപ്പാരുകളിൽ ഇവയെ കാണാറില്ല.
അവയുടെ പുറത്തുള്ള മുള്ളിനെ എല്ലാവർക്കും പേടിയാണ്. അതുകൊണ്ടാൽ വല്ലാത്ത വേദനയും തരിപ്പുമാണ്. മുള്ളു കൊണ്ടാൽ തരിപ്പ് മാറ്റാൻ ഉടൻ കണവ അഥവാ squid കട്ട് ചെയ്തു വെക്കുന്ന രീതി കടക്കോടിയിൽ ഉണ്ട്.

Chunkan

The Chunkan is a species that resembles the Thedu (often found in backwaters). It is smaller than the common Thedu, averaging about 25 centimeters in length. In the past, large quantities of Chunkan used to be caught using Thattumadi (boat seine) nets. Although they inhabit the waters near the coast, they are not typically found around rocky coastal reefs.People are wary of the spines on their bodies, as a prick causes intense pain and a numbing sensation. A local remedy practiced in the coastal region to relieve this numbness is to immediately apply a piece of freshly cut squid to the affected area.
