മറ്റ് ശംഖ്‌കൾ (Mattu shankhukal) Other Shells
ഈ കമ്മ്യൂണിറ്റി മറൈൻ ബയോഡൈവേഴ്സിറ്റി ഓൺലൈൻ രജിസ്റ്ററിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുള്ള ശംഖ്‌കൾ അഥവ uni വാൽവ്സ് മുഖ്യമായും വർക്കല,വിഴിഞ്ഞം, കോവളം എന്നീ ഇടങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും ശേഖരിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളവയാണ്. ഇതിൽ തന്നെ പ്രധാന ഇടമാണ് വർക്കല. വർക്കലയിലെ കടലടിതട്ടിൽ വെട്ടുകൽ പാരുകൾ ഉള്ളതിനാൽ ആവാം അവിടെ നിറയെ ശംഖുകൾ ഉള്ളതെന്ന് കടൽ പണിക്കാർ പറയുന്നു.

The shells, or univalves, included in this Community Marine Biodiversity Online Register have been collected mainly from Varkala, Vizhinjam, and Kovalam. Among these locations, Varkala is particularly significant.

Local fisherfolk suggest that the abundance of shells in Varkala may be due to the presence of laterite rock formations on the seabed, which provide suitable habitats for a variety of marine organisms.
