(Kadal ochukal ) - Sea hare
Sea slugs are another group of fascinating creatures found on rocky shores and intertidal reefs. Large numbers have been documented on the coastal rocks near Varkala and on the Kandam Thinni Para near Kappil. The abundance of these animals in these areas may be related to the fact that the reefs there are made of laterite rock.
Unlike ordinary land snails, sea slugs do not have a hard external shell. They are remarkably beautiful creatures, often displaying striking colours and forms. FML has captured numerous videos of them grazing and moving across the rocks during the daytime.
On one occasion, a marine snail with an external shell was also found at Vizhinjam. FML has also documented sea-slug egg masses on the rocky reefs.
There is another group of snails that can be seen travelling while sheltering among floating seaweeds and other drifting marine vegetation. We have also been able to document these snails laying their eggs on the same seaweed among which they live.
