(Chevva) /Snapper fishes

Chavva
Chavva fish resemble the Chemballi (Red Snapper) in appearance.
They are deep-sea fish; unlike Kodumpalli, they do not venture into coastal waters. Fully grown Chavva can exceed a meter in length. In the 1980s, large specimens were frequently caught near the sunken ship located at a depth of 55 meters off the coast of Shangumugham.
However, for over a quarter of a century now, few Chavva have been caught at that shipwreck site. We have not yet been able to observe these fish which inhabit the deep sea through diving.
