മുള്ളൻ പൂലകൾ

മുള്ളൻ പന്നികളെ പോലെ ശരീരം മുഴുവൻ മുള്ളുകളുമായി ജീവിക്കുന്ന ഒരു മത്സ്യം. പ്രതികൂല സാഹചര്യത്തിൽ ഇവ ശരീരം ബലൂൺ പോലെ വീർപ്പിക്കുമ്പോൾ മുള്ളുകൾ അപകടകാരികൾ ആവും. മുൻകാലങ്ങളിൽ ഒക്ടോബർ മുതൽ ജനുവരി വരെ തീരത്തോട് ചേർന്ന് കടലിൽ ഇവ ധാരാളം കാണപ്പെടുമായിരുന്നു. ഭക്ഷ്യയോഗ്യമല്ലാത്ത ഈ മത്സ്യം ചിലപ്പോൾ വലിയ കൂട്ടമായി കമ്പവലകളിൽ അകപ്പെടുന്നത് കടൽപണിക്കാർക്ക് ഏറെ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുകൾ സൃഷ്ടിച്ചിരുന്നു. എന്നാൽ കുറേയേറെ വർഷങ്ങളായി ഇവയെ ആ തരത്തിൽ കാണാറേയില്ല.
മുള്ളൻ പൂലകൾ കടലിൽ നിന്ന് അപ്രത്യക്ഷമായോ എന്നുപോലും തോന്നിപ്പിക്കുന്ന അവസ്ഥയാണ്.
മുള്ളൻ പൂലകളുടെ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെ കടൽ പണിക്കാർ ഒരിക്കലും കണ്ടിട്ടില്ല എന്നതാണ് മറ്റൊരു പ്രത്യേകത.

Mullan Poola

 This is a fish that, much like a porcupine, is covered in spines. When threatened, it inflates its body like a balloon, making those spines dangerous. In the past, they were frequently found in coastal waters between October and January. Although inedible, they would often get caught in large shoals in drag nets, causing significant difficulties for fishermen. However, they have not been seen in such numbers for quite some time nowIt almost seems as though they have vanished from the sea entirely.Another notable fact is that fishermen have never encountered the young of this species.
