പേനച്ചിപ്പികൾ (Penachippikal ) Pen Shells
പേന പോലെ കൂർത്ത് മുനയുള്ളതും മറുഭാഗം പരന്ന് കത്തിയേക്കാൾ മൂർച്ചയുള്ളതുമാണ് പേന ചിപ്പികൾ.
സാധാരണ തീരക്കടൽ പാരുകൾക്കടുത്ത് മണലിൽ കൂർത്ത ഭാഗം മണ്ണിൽ ഉറപ്പിച്ച് ഇവ വസിക്കുന്നു. മണ്ണിനു മുകളിൽ ഇവയുടെ മൂർച്ചയുള്ള ഭാഗം മാത്രമേ കാണൂ . വെറും കാലുമായി ചിപ്പിയെടുക്കാൻ കടലിനടിയിൽ എത്തുന്ന കടൽ പണിക്കാർ കടൽ വെള്ളത്തിന് തെളിച്ചം കുറവുള്ളപ്പോൾ അറിയാതെ പേനച്ചിപ്പികളുടെ മുകളിൽ ചവിട്ടി അപകടപ്പെടാറുണ്ട്. പേനച്ചിപ്പികളിൽ തോടിന് പുറത്ത് മുള്ളുപോലെ ഉള്ളതും ഇല്ലാത്തതുമായ ഇനങ്ങളുണ്ട്.

Pen Shells (Penachippikal)

Pen shells are pointed and tapered like a pen at one end, while the other side is broad, flat, and sharp like a knife.

They usually live buried in sandy areas near coastal rocky reefs, anchoring their pointed end firmly into the seabed. Only the sharp upper edge of the shell is visible above the sand. Fisherfolk who enter the sea barefoot to collect shells can sometimes accidentally step on pen shells and injure themselves, particularly when the water is not clear enough to see the seabed.

Pen shells occur in different forms, with some species having spine-like projections on the outside of the shell and others lacking them.
