കടലട്ടകൾ വളരെ വാണിജ്യ പ്രാധാന്യമുള്ളതും അതിനാൽ തന്നെ വംശനാശഭീഷണി നേരിടുന്നവയും ആണ്. തീരക്കടലിനോട് ചേർന്ന് പ്രത്യേക സാഹചര്യങ്ങളിൽ മാത്രം ജീവിക്കുന്ന ഒരിനം ജീവിയാണ് കടലട്ടകൾ. പാറ മുകളിലും പാറയോട് ചേർന്ന് മണൽ തറയിലും ഇവയുടെ സാന്നിധ്യം കാണാം. ഇവയും പകൽ സമയങ്ങളിൽ നമ്മുടെ സാന്നിധ്യത്തിൽ പ്രതികരിക്കാറില്ല. എന്നാൽ രാത്രിയിൽ പ്രതികരിക്കാറുണ്ട്. പ്രത്യക്ഷത്തിൽ കണ്ണില്ലാത്ത ജീവിയാണിത്. വളരെ പതുക്കെ മാത്രമേ സഞ്ചരിക്കാൻ കഴിയു. തിരുവനന്തപുരം കടലിൽ കടൽ വെള്ളരി അത്യാവിശ്യം കൂട്ടമായി കാണപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു ഇടമുണ്ട്. ഗവേഷണ ആവശ്യത്തിനും വാണിജ്യ ആവശ്യത്തിനും അവയെ എടുത്തു നശിപ്പിക്കാൻ ഇടയുള്ളതിനാൽ അതിന്റെ ലൊക്കേഷൻ ഇവിടെ പറയുന്നില്ല. ഇവ വസിക്കുന്നത് ഒരു പ്രത്യേക ഇടത്ത് ആണെങ്കിലും ആ ഇടത്തുനിന്നും ഏതാണ്ട് നൂറ് മീറ്റർ മാറി മറ്റൊരിടത്ത് വലിയ അളവിൽ അവയുടെ വിസർജ്യം കാണാറുണ്ട്. ഇത് കൗതുകകരമാണ്. എഫ് എം ൽ അത് ഡോക്യുമെന്റ് ചെയ്തിട്ടുമുണ്ട്.

Sea cucumbers are creatures of significant commercial value and, consequently, face the threat of extinction. They inhabit specific environments close to the coast, found either on rocky surfaces or on the sandy seabed adjacent to rocks. Like many other marine creatures, they do not react to human presence during the day but do show a response at night. Outwardly, they appear to lack eyes and move very slowly. There is a specific location in the waters off Thiruvananthapuram where sea cucumbers are found in considerable numbers; however, the exact location is not disclosed here to prevent their removal or destruction for research or commercial purposes. Although they inhabit a specific area, large quantities of their excrement are often found about a hundred meters away—a fascinating phenomenon that has been documented
